Mortise Lock

Combined with any lock manufacturer's 1-1/8" mortise cylinder lock, including Best, Corbin Russwin and Schlage, Karp's mortise preparation provides the highest level of security. It is ideally suited for asylums, detention centers or any environment where added durability and security is required.

RIM Cylinder Lock with Night Latch

This cylinder locking device provides keyed access from the outside of the door. The night latch also has a small thumb latch that allows the spring latch to remain in a retracted position, which allows access at any time.

Material

Type 304 stainless steel is well-suited for exterior weathering locations or interior hygienic locations such as hospitals and health care, pharmaceutical plants, research laboratories and food processing facilities. Stainless steel is corrosion resistant, durable and requires very little maintenance. Karp's stainless steel access doors have a No. 4 satin finish, which is a general purpose bright finish with a visible "grain" which prevents mirror reflection.

Additional

Removable doors allow for unobstructed access to wall or ceiling contents. To facilitate access and reduce door load, Karp can manufacture access door in a double leaf style.

The DSC-210PL is a recessed access door for plastered walls and ceilings. The door panel is recessed 1/2 inch and lined with self-furring metal lath, so the plasterer carries the surrounding plaster straight across the face of the door. Once the plaster is finished, the door sits hidden in the surface and only the perimeter joint shows where it opens.

Built to take plaster

Plaster needs something to key into. A drywall access door has a flat panel and a bead made for joint compound, and it is not designed to carry a plaster coat. The self-furring lath in the DSC-210PL holds the plaster off the steel and gives it a grip, and the 1/2 inch recess gives the coat its depth, which is what lets the finish run continuously over the door.

Recessed or flush

Choose the DSC-210PL where the door should disappear into the plaster. Where the plaster only needs to finish neatly against the edge of a door, the DSC-214PL flush access door for plastered surfaces is the alternative.

Sizes and opening

Five standard sizes: 12 x 12, 18 x 18, 24 x 12, 24 x 24 and 36 x 24 inches. The opening is the door size plus 1/8 inch, tighter than the 3/8 inch allowance on Karp's drywall doors. The 12 x 12 closes with one latch, the 18 x 18, 24 x 12 and 24 x 24 with two, and the 36 x 24 with three. Shipping weight runs from 6.7 pounds to 32 pounds, before the plaster on the panel is added.

Locks and access

Three lock options are available. A mortise preparation takes any manufacturer's 1-1/8 inch mortise cylinder, including Best, Corbin Russwin and Schlage, for detention centers and other settings where security governs. A RIM cylinder lock with night latch and an economical cylinder lock both give keyed access from outside the door. The door is removable for unobstructed access to what is behind it, and Karp can build it in a double leaf style to make access easier and reduce the load on each leaf.

Before specifying

Karp publishes no fire rating for the DSC-210PL, so in a rated wall or ceiling specify a listed fire rated door instead. Agree the plaster thickness with the plastering contractor so the finished coat matches the recess. Then add the size and lock option to your distributor quote.

Stainless steel

The DSC-210PL is also available in Type 304 stainless steel with a No. 4 satin finish, for exterior walls and for hospitals, laboratories and food processing areas where corrosion resistance matters.
