Specialty Access Doors
Two problems the standard range does not answer
Two groups of products sit in this category, and they answer two problems that the standard range does not.
Sesame ceiling hatches for drywall, concealed grid and exposed grid
The Sesame range covers large-format ceiling access where a conventional hinged panel is impractical. Three models match the three common ceiling types: the KSTDW for drywall ceilings, the KSTC for concealed grid suspended ceilings, and the KSTE for exposed grid. Matching the hatch to the grid type matters, because a concealed grid ceiling has no visible framing to trim against and an exposed grid ceiling does, so the frame detail is different.
These are specified where a mechanical plant space, a roof void or a service run above a ceiling needs a proper opening rather than a lifted tile, and where the opening has to look deliberate.
The KAL anti-ligature door for behavioral health areas
The KAL is designed for anti-ligature installations. Karp specifies it for correctional facilities, psychiatric hospitals, detention centers and other high-security environments where risk reduction is critical, and it is available in 12 x 12, 18 x 18 and 24 x 24 inches, with shipping weights from 8.3 to 22.1 pounds.
Anti-ligature is a different requirement from security. A security door resists someone trying to get through it. An anti-ligature door removes any feature that could serve as an attachment point, which governs the panel profile, the hardware and the perimeter detail. For behavioral health areas, specify the KAL rather than a security grade door, and if both forced-entry resistance and ligature resistance are required, contact the sales team so the combination is confirmed rather than assumed.
Both ranges are made in the USA.
