KRHG Galvanized Roof Hatch
SKU:KRHG
Karp Associates, Inc. presents a re-engineered roof hatch that includes several new and improved features. Karp's roof hatches now maintain heavy gauge stiffeners for added support and stability along with an increased gauge of aluminum for greater durability and strength. The exterior handle has been replaced with a push-button lock release located on the front side of the cover, shielded from environmental elements to prevent water accumulation and leakage.
All gasketing has been replaced with new wider and more durable gasketing to maximize the door/curb seal and ensure a watertight closure. All edges have been rounded for improved safety. Advanced assembly method allows for reduced welding blemishes. Roof hatches are available in galvanized model KRHG or aluminum model KRHA and are finished with EPA approved electrostatic paint.

The KRHG is a galvanized steel roof hatch for permanent roof access: routine roof inspection, servicing rooftop plant, and getting tools and components up to the roof without a crane. It is the one access product that lives permanently in the weather and gets opened by someone standing on a ladder, and those two facts drive the whole specification.
Built for weather and for one-handed operation
Karp re-engineered the roof hatch range, and three of those changes matter on site. The exterior handle was replaced with a push-button lock release on the front face of the cover, shielded from the weather so water cannot collect in the mechanism. An unprotected release is normally the first part of a roof hatch to seize. The gasketing was replaced with wider, more durable gasketing to maximise the cover to curb seal and ensure watertight closure. All edges were rounded, which matters on a product handled from a ladder with one hand.
Heavy gauge stiffeners are built into the cover for support and stability, the assembly method was revised to reduce welding blemishes, and the hatch is finished with EPA approved electrostatic paint.
Galvanized or aluminum
Karp builds the same hatch in two materials. The KRHG in galvanized steel gives strength and durability, and is the usual specification where the hatch is on a plant roof, takes regular traffic, or is fitted with a fall protection rail or a safety post. The KRHA in aluminum weighs roughly half as much at the smaller sizes, 70 pounds against 135 at 24 x 36, and brings inherent corrosion resistance for coastal and high-humidity sites. Weight is not an abstract comparison here. It is what someone feels every time they push the cover open from the top of a ladder, so if the hatch is opened often, handle the aluminum model before deciding.
Sizes
Four standard sizes: 24 x 36, 30 x 36, 30 x 54 and 30 x 96 inches, with shipping weights from 135 to 335 pounds. Size by what has to pass through the opening rather than by what suits the curb. A hatch sized for a person is not a hatch sized for a rooftop unit component, so set the dimension from the equipment schedule. The 30 x 96 is the longest standard size and suits ladder plus long-material access; larger openings are made to order.
