The KSTC Sesame Concealed Grid Ceiling Hatch is designed to provide access through concealed grid ceiling systems while maintaining a clean finished-ceiling appearance. The panel opens to receive tile, allowing the ceiling finish to be incorporated into the hatch for a less noticeable access point.
The KSTC door panel opens to a check position for safety before releasing for a 90° opening. The panel is also removable when unobstructed access is required.
Where to use a concealed grid ceiling hatch
The KSTC is designed for concealed grid ceiling systems where access is needed to services located above the finished ceiling.
Typical applications include access to:
- Mechanical services
- HVAC components
- Plumbing systems
- Electrical equipment
- Building service equipment
- Other concealed components requiring periodic maintenance
The hatch provides a practical access point while allowing the finished ceiling to maintain a coordinated appearance.
Concealed grid ceiling access
A concealed grid ceiling hatch is different from a drywall ceiling hatch or exposed grid ceiling access panel. The KSTC is designed specifically for concealed grid systems and allows the panel to receive tile.
For drywall ceilings, see Karp's Sesame Drywall Ceiling Hatch. For exposed grid ceiling systems, see the Sesame Exposed Grid Ceiling Hatch.
Selecting the hatch according to the ceiling construction helps ensure the access panel is appropriate for the finished ceiling system.
Controlled and removable access
The KSTC door panel first opens to a check position for safety and then releases for a 90° opening. The panel is also removable.
This provides controlled opening during normal access while allowing the panel to be removed when larger unobstructed access is needed for maintenance.
Available sizes
The KSTC is available in 24 x 24 inch and 48 x 24 inch standard sizes.
Select the hatch size based on the equipment and services that need to be accessed above the ceiling. Consider the required working clearance as well as the size of the equipment when determining the appropriate opening.
