The KRP-250FR is a non-insulated fire rated access door designed for wall applications requiring a listed access opening. It is rated by Underwriters Laboratories for a 1.5-hour “B” label in walls and may be used in a 2-hour fire rated wall assembly, as specified by Karp.
The KRP-250FR provides access to concealed building services while supporting the fire-resistance requirements of the specified wall assembly when installed according to the applicable listing and installation requirements.
Fire rated access doors are used where maintenance access is required through a fire rated wall. The selected door must be listed for the intended application and compatible with the assembly requirements.
Typical applications include access to:
Plumbing valves and connections
Electrical components
Mechanical services
Building control equipment
Concealed utilities within rated partitions
Always confirm the wall rating, opening dimensions and door listing before specifying the access door.
The KRP-250FR carries a UL 1.5-hour “B” label rating for wall installation and may be used in a 2-hour fire rated wall assembly.
A door's rating is specific to its model and permitted application. Do not assume that a wall-rated door is suitable for a rated ceiling or that its rating is interchangeable with another Karp model.
For additional guidance, read Karp's guide to fire rated access door requirements and ratings.
Karp offers several fire rated access doors for different installation conditions.
The KRP-150FR Fire Rated Access Door for Walls and Ceilings is insulated and listed for wall and ceiling applications.
The KRP-350FR Fire Rated Access Door for Drywall Surfaces is insulated and designed for drywall finishes.
The KRP-450FR Fire Rated Access Door for Drywall, Walls Only is non-insulated and designed for drywall wall applications.
Choose the model based on the substrate, installation location and required listing rather than appearance alone.
The KRP-250FR is available in standard sizes from 8 x 8 inches to 36 x 36 inches, including rectangular configurations.
The wall opening is 3/8 inch larger than the nominal door dimensions in each direction. For example, an 8 x 8 inch door requires an 8 3/8 x 8 3/8 inch opening.
Use the published size table for the selected model when preparing the opening. Karp provides architectural specifications and CAD resources for project documentation.
