RIM Cylinder Lock with Night Latch

RIM Cylinder Lock with Night Latch

This cylinder locking device provides keyed access from the outside of the door. The night latch also has a small thumb latch that allows the spring latch to remain in a retracted position, which allows access at any time.

Material

Type 304 stainless steel is well-suited for exterior weathering locations or interior hygienic locations such as hospitals and health care, pharmaceutical plants, research laboratories and food processing facilities. Stainless steel is corrosion resistant, durable and requires very little maintenance. Karp's stainless steel access doors have a No. 4 satin finish, which is a general purpose bright finish with a visible "grain" which prevents mirror reflection.

Additional

Masonry Straps secure the installation of Karp's doors in masonry applications. These are included on all fire rated applications.

The KRP-150FR is an insulated, flush mounted fire rated access door designed for installation in walls and ceilings. It has mounting holes to facilitate installation and is listed by Underwriters Laboratories for a 1.5 hour “B” label in walls and by Warnock Hersey for 3 hours in ceilings.

For architects, contractors and specifiers, the important point is that the fire rating is specific to the KRP-150FR and its listed application. Select the door based on the rated assembly, location and required opening protection rather than treating all fire rated access doors as interchangeable.

Where the KRP-150FR is used

The KRP-150FR provides access to services located behind a rated wall or above a rated ceiling while maintaining the required listed protection at the access opening.

Typical applications can include:

  • Plumbing valves and controls
  • Mechanical services
  • Electrical equipment
  • Building service components
  • Equipment located within rated wall or ceiling assemblies

The access door should be positioned and sized so the required equipment can be reached while remaining within the product's listed size and installation requirements.

Wall and ceiling fire ratings

The KRP-150FR has different listed ratings depending on its location. It carries a UL 1.5 hour “B” label rating in walls and a Warnock Hersey 3 hour rating in ceilings.

That distinction matters when specifying a fire rated access panel. A rating for one location should not automatically be assumed to apply to another. Always match the KRP-150FR specification and listing information to the rated wall or ceiling assembly shown on the project documents.

For projects with different surface or installation requirements, Karp also offers other fire rated access doors, including the KRP-350FR, KRP-250FR and KRP-450FR.

Flush mounted access for rated assemblies

The KRP-150FR uses a flush-mounted design, making it suitable where a conventional exposed frame is appropriate for the finished wall or ceiling surface.

Masonry straps are included on Karp fire rated applications for securing the installation in masonry construction. Where a project requires a different finish or drywall-concealed flange, select the fire rated model designed for that surface rather than modifying the KRP-150FR.

Choosing the correct size

KRP-150FR is available in a range of standard sizes from 8 x 8 inches through 48 x 48 inches. The published size table identifies the corresponding wall or ceiling opening for each door size.

The opening dimension is not the same as the nominal door dimension. For example, an 8 x 8 inch KRP-150FR requires an 8 3/8 x 8 3/8 inch wall or ceiling opening.

Always use the published opening dimensions and the applicable product documentation when preparing the rough opening.

Fire rated access doors and project specifications

A fire rated access door should be selected as part of the rated assembly rather than simply because a wall is labeled “fire rated.” Verify the required rating, wall or ceiling location, door model and permitted size against the project drawings and Karp's current specification documentation.

Karp provides architectural specifications and technical documentation for its fire rated access door models to support specification and submittal work.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a fire rated access door?
A fire rated access door is a listed access door designed for installation in a fire rated wall or ceiling assembly. Its permitted rating and application depend on the specific model, size and listed installation conditions.
What is the rating of the KRP-150FR?
The KRP-150FR is rated by Underwriters Laboratories for a 1.5 hour “B” label in walls and by Warnock Hersey for 3 hours in ceilings.
Can the KRP-150FR be used in both walls and ceilings?
Yes. The KRP-150FR is specifically designed for walls and ceilings, with separate listed ratings for those applications. Verify the current specification and listing requirements for the particular installation.
Is the KRP-150FR insulated?
Yes. The KRP-150FR is an insulated fire rated access door.
What is the difference between the KRP-150FR and KRP-350FR?
Both are insulated fire rated access doors with 1.5 hour “B” label wall ratings and 3 hour ceiling ratings, but they are designed for different finished surfaces. The KRP-350FR has a textured frame and bead intended for drywall joint compound to conceal the flange, while the KRP-150FR is the flush-mounted model for walls and ceilings.
What opening is required for the KRP-150FR?
The required opening varies by door size and is published in the KRP-150FR size table. For example, an 8 x 8 inch door requires an 8 3/8 x 8 3/8 inch wall or ceiling opening. Always use the published opening dimension for the selected size.
Are fire rated access doors required to match the rating of the wall?
Not necessarily. Opening-protective requirements can differ from the rating of the surrounding wall assembly. The required access door rating depends on the applicable code, assembly and listing. Confirm the required rating with the project documents and AHJ rather than assuming the door must match the wall hour-for-hour.
